Senior Accountant

Position Description
SUMMARY of POSITION: Responsible for specific financial statement, government grant, budget, audit and other input and analysis

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare monthly package for government grants, including but not limited to, assembly of all backup documents, spreadsheet input, invoicing, wage and benefit allocation, delivery to City (if necessary), variance analysis, disbursement to various program managers and senior management. This will include a thorough knowledge of each government agency's contract regulations regarding allowed costs, matching costs, etc.
• Review of monthly grant package prepared by Staff Accountant(s)
• Journal Entries, General Ledger account review, analysis, etc.
• Preparation of monthly financial statement package spreadsheets, balance sheet and profit/loss account reconciliations and related documents in a timely fashion after Archdiocese GL close.
• Accounts Receivable review, analysis and collection efforts as needed.
• Prepare schedules and assist with internal, government and outside auditors as needed.
• Develop a thorough understanding of how each grant relates to specific programs and to the overall financial structure at St. Patrick Center.
• Assist with preparation and input of annual budget.

DIRECT REPORTS:
• Staff Accountant(s)

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• Four year degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or related field
• CPA, CMA or CGMA preferred
• Two years minimum experience in accounting environment, preferably in a not-for-profit environment
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and accounting software packages, Lawson preferred.

SKILLS AND ATTITUDE:
• Must quickly develop a familiarity with organization policies and procedures.
• Must have the ability to notice and question anomalies, excessive variances or omissions in grants or financial statements and take the necessary steps to research and resolve same
• Must be able to prioritize and adapt to numerous projects and meet specific timelines

RELATIONSHIPS REQUIRED:
• Must be able to interact with staff at all levels of the organization, including Archdiocese staff.
